Lakeyah Danaee Robinson, known professionally as Lakeyah, was born on February 28, 2001, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She began her music career at the age of 15, when she started rapping and performing in slam poetry competitions in high school. Her talent and passion for music led her to join the music duo "BTM" (Beyond the Music) in 2017, which achieved over one million YouTube views.After dropping out of college, Lakeyah moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she was inspired by T.I.'s Trap Museum and its exhibit on Quality Control Music. This experience motivated her to pursue a career in music. She went viral for the #FirstDayOutChallenge and #SoGoneChallenge, which showcased her rapping skills. Her freestyle over the song "We Paid" by 42 Dugg and Lil Baby also gained significant attention.Lakeyah's big break came when she was signed to Quality Control Music. Her debut single "Big FlexHER", featuring 42 Dugg, was released on October 9, 2020, and gained over three million views on YouTube. She then released her debut album "Time's Up" on December 11, 2020, which included the popular single "Female Goat" featuring City Girls. The album featured a Midwest-style beat by Detroit producer Reuel StopPlaying and has over 16 million views on YouTube.In the spring of 2021, Lakeyah became a brand ambassador for Rihanna's lingerie line, Savage X Fenty. She then released her second project "In Due Time" on April 9, 2021, which featured Gucci Mane and Yung Bleu. The album was a commercial success and helped establish Lakeyah as a rising star in the music industry. She was also named one of Rolling Stone's Breakthrough 25 charts, ranking fourth among the fastest-rising new artists.Lakeyah's hard work and dedication earned her a spot in the 2021 XXL Freshman Class, becoming the first Milwaukee rapper to be named an XXL freshman in its 14-year history.
