NewJeans is a South Korean girl group formed by ADOR, a sub-label of Hybe. The group consists of five members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. Under the production guidance of Min Hee-jin, NewJeans has cultivated a distinctive identity characterized by a 'girl next door' image paired with musical influences reminiscent of the 1990s and 2000s.The group made its debut on July 22, 2022, with the single "Attention," which quickly ascended to number one on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart. The success of "Attention" was followed by the releases of "Hype Boy" and "Cookie," with "Hype Boy" becoming the longest-running song on the Billboard Global 200 by a K-pop female act. All three singles were featured on their self-titled debut extended play (EP), released in August 2022.In January 2023, NewJeans released their first single album, *OMG*, which achieved commercial success and included two singles: "Ditto" and "OMG." "Ditto" in particular gained widespread popularity, becoming the longest-running number-one song on the Circle Digital Chart and marking the group's entry on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.The group's second EP, *Get Up*, further solidified their standing in the music industry by peaking at number one on the US Billboard 200 and selling over one million copies in South Korea. Its lead single, "Super Shy," achieved impressive chart performance, ranking as the group's highest-charting single on the Billboard Global 200 at number two, as well as prominently on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.Since their debut, NewJeans has received multiple rookie awards and has been recognized in prominent listicles, including Time's Next Generation Leaders and Forbes's Korea Power Celebrity 40. In 2023, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) named NewJeans the eighth best-selling artist worldwide, underscoring their rapid rise in the global music landscape.All five members were former trainees under Source Music until September 2021, which contributed to their polished performances and cohesive group dynamics. As of 2024, NewJeans continues to be celebrated for their innovative approach to music and aesthetics, establishing a strong foothold in both the K-pop industry and beyond.
