The American rock band Panic! at the Disco was established in 2004 by founding members Brendon Urie, Brent Wilson, Spencer Smith, and Ryan Ross. The four men had grown up together and began recording their first demo tapes while still in high school. In 2004, Panic! at the Disco caught the attention of Decaydance Records, which signed them to the label late that year.
Panic! at the Disco entered the studio and moved to College Park, Maryland, to prepare for a major label debut. The result, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, arrived in 2005 and made a slow climb up the mainstream and independent charts. Eventually, the album rose to the number one spot on the Heatseekers charts and into the top ten on the indie charts, eventually reaching platinum status and a 2006 MTV Video of the Year award for the song “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” The song also became Panic! at the Disco’s big breakthrough, rising into the top ten on the mainstream charts in the United States.
Since that time, Panic! at the Disco has released the additional albums: Pretty. Odd. (2008); Vices & Virtues (2011); and Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! (2013.) The albums have featured the charting singles: “But It’s Better If You Do,” “Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off,” “Nine in the Afternoon,” “The Ballad of Mona Lisa,” “Miss Jackson,” “This is Gospel,” “Hallelujah,” and “Victorious.”
Panic! at the Disco is a band on a slow rise with an increasing fan base and growing popularity. The group’s most recent album, Death of a Bachelor, was released in 2016. The single “Emperor’s New Clothes,” is their most recent charting single.
