Bobby V Biography

The performer known as Bobby V was born Robert Wilson in 1980 in Mississippi. Bobby moved to the Atlanta area when he was a young man, and as a teenager he fell in love with R&B music. By the mid 1990’s, Bobby had joined the R&B group Mista, with which he experienced some success, but the group only lasted a few years.

 

Following Mista’s breakup, Bobby began recording a series of albums as a demo artist. The demos eventually reached such industry notables as Puff Daddy and Ludacris, who forwarded them on to the powers that be at Disturbing Tha Peace, garnering Bobby V his first record deal. Bobby’s debut album, Bobby Valentino, was released in 2005 and on the strength of it’s top ten hit, “Slow Down,” the album rose to gold status. That same year, Bobby V joined the Screm Tour IV, performing alongside Bow Wow, B5, and Omarion, and upon his return he re-entered the studio to prepare for his next album release.

 

Since that time, Bobby V has released the albums Special Occasion (2007), The Rebirth (2009), Fly on the Wall (2011), and Dusk Till Dawn (2012.) The album spawned the R&B hits “Tell Me,” “Turn the Page,” “Anonymous” (featuring Timbaland), “Beep” (featuring Yung Joc), “Hands on Me,” “Phone #,” “Words,” “Grab Somebody” (featuring Twista), and “Mirror” (featuring Lil Wayne.) Collectively, the albums and singles have earned Bobby V multiple award nominations from the NAACP Image Awards, Soul Train Awards, and Vibe Awards, with two wins from the Urban Music Awards (for Best Male Artist and Best R&B Act, 2009) and the BMI Awards (for Song of the Year, for “Slow Down,” in 2005.)

 

Bobby V continues to perform and record. His most recent album, Peach Moon, was released in late 2013.
