Ginuwine Biography

The artist known as Ginuwine was born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin in 1975 in Washington, DC. Although Ginuwine initially went to school to become a paralegal, his longtime love of music led to a change in his career path in the 1990’s, when his debut album, Ginuwine… the Bachelor, became a hit in 1996.

Produced by music icon Timbaland, Ginuwine’s debut featured the hit song “Pony” and launched a career which would span two decades, well into the new millennium. Ginuwine’s debut was followed by: 100% Ginuwine (1999), The Life (2001), The Senior (2003), Back II Da Basics (2005), A Man’s Thoughts (2009), and Elgin (2011.) Throughout this time he collaborated with such notable producers as R. Kelly, and in the last decade he has also launched an acting career, appearing in films and plays such as The Ideal Husband (2011.) 

For his achievements, Ginuwine has been recognized with a number of award recognitions, including three Favorite Male R&B Artists Award nominations from the American Music Awards (in 2000, 2002, and 2003); A BET nomination for Best Male R&B Artist in 2003; and a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B Soul Male Album (in 2000, for 100% Ginuwine.) Most recently, Ginuwine released the album Three Kings (2013), and he currently has plans for future performances and projects.
