Jeremih Biography

The musician and producer known as Jeremih was born Jeremih Felton in 1987 in Chicago, Illinois. Jeremih’s interest in music began when he was still a toddler, when at the age of three he started experimenting with various instruments around the house. By the time he was in middle school, Jeremih had learned to play the piano, drums, and saxophone, and so as a teenager he joined various school bands.

Jeremih’s talents were not limited to music, and so the academically gifted student graduated early, and at the age of sixteen he began his university studies with the initial goal of a career in engineering. The university life was a bit overwhelming to such a young man, and so he switched to a smaller college and changed his major to music. It was at Columbia College Chicago that Jeremih began collaborating with producers, and after a number of writing sessions, he garnered the interest of Def Jam Recordings and signed his first record deal.

Jeremih’s self-titled debut album was released in 2009 and quickly rose into the top ten on the Billboard charts. The album spawned the hit singles “Birthday Sex,” “Imma Star (Everywhere We Are),” and “Break Up to Make Up.” Jeremih was followed by All About You (2010), which gave audiences the additional singles: “I Like” (featuring Ludacris); “Down on Me” (featuring 50 Cent); “Don’t Tell ‘Em” (featuring YG); and “Planes” (featuring J. Cole.)

Jeremih is a star on the rise and definitely one to watch. He recently announced plans for his next album, expected to arrive in 2015.
