Lloyd Biography

The American R&B artist known as Lloyd was born Lloyd Polite, Jr. in 1986 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lloyd grew up in Georgia, outside of the Atlanta area, and as a teenager he began to team up with other aspiring musicians to create a number of groups. One of Lloyd’s earliest gigs was as a member of the group N-Toon, which disbanded in 2001, but led to an offer for Lloyd to sign with The Inc. Records as a solo artist.

 

In 2004, Lloyd released his debut album, Southside, and it was an enormous hit. Southside debuted at the number three spot on the R&B/hip-hop charts and at number eleven on the mainstream charts. The album spawned the singles “Southside Remix,” “Hey Young Girl,” and “Southside,” which featured Ashanti. All singles fared well, and paved the way for Lloyd’s sophomore effort, Street Love, which followed in 2007. Street Love featured the hits “Get It Shawty” and “You,” and firmly established Lloyd as one of the most popular R&B/hip-hop artists of the era.

 

Since that time, Lloyd has released the albums Lessons in Love (2008) and King of Hearts (2011), featuring the singles: “Player’s Prayer,” “How We Do It (Around My Way),” “Girls Around the World,” “Year of the Lover,” “Lay It Down,” “Cupid,” and “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That.)” In addition, Lloyd has appeared as a guest artist on a number of singles by other performers, including: Ja Rule (“Caught Up”); Huey (“When I Hustle”); Pitbull (“Secret Admirer”); Dem Franchize Boyz (“Turn Heads”); Young Money (“BedRock”); and  Wale (“Sabotage.”)
