Meli'sa Morgan Biography

The R&B singer Meli’sa Morgan rose to fame with a string of hits in the mid 1980’s and early 1990’s. As a child, Meli’sa grew up singing in her local church choir, and by the early 1980’s she’d joined her first group, Shades of Love, with whom she experienced some significant success. With Shades of Love, Meli’sa recorded the top forty hit “Body to Body (Keep in Touch),” but within a year she’d left the group to launch her own solo career.

In between, Meli’sa Morgan served as a supporting vocalist and backup singer for Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan. In 1986, Morgan released the debut album, Do Me Baby, and the title track, a cover of the Prince hit, rose into the top forty on the mainstream charts. Three other albums followed: Good Love (1987), The Lady in Me (1990), and Still in Love with You (1992), giving audiences the additional successful singles: “Do You Still Love Me,” “Fool’s Paradise,” “If You Can Do It: I Can Too,” “Love Changes” (with Kashif), “Here Comes the Night,” “Still in Love with You,” and “Through the Tears.”

In the mid 1990’s Meli’sa Morgan embarked on a lengthy hiatus, only to return in 2005 with the album I Remember. The album features the title track, plus the additional collaborative singles: “How” (with JT Taylor) and “Back Together Again” (with Freddie Jackson.) Meli’sa Morgan now continues to perform again, and although it’s been nearly a decade since her last album release, there is talk of her appearing on additional projects in the coming years.
