Sevyn Streeter Biography

The singer-songwriter known was Sevyn Streeter was born Amber Denise Streeter in 1986 in Haines City, Florida. Young Streeter began singing in her local church, but she always harbored a dream of growing up to become a professional performer. She competed in Showtime at the Apollo when she was only ten years old and rose to a first-place tie with a striking performance of My Funny Valentine. It quickly became clear to Sevyn’s family that the young girl was destined for future stardom.

With the support of her family, Sevyn joined the girl group TG4 and signed her first record deal at the sage of fifteen. The group was only moderately successful, however, and so they disbanded within a few years. By 2007, Sevyn’s talents as a solo performer caught the attention of Jive Records and they brought her into another all-girl group, RichGirl. The group never fully got off the ground, but during this time, Jive also began nurturing Sevyn as a solo artist, and so even after RichGirl also dissolved, Sevyn’s future as a performer was still secure.

Sevyn released her debut single, “I Like It,” in early 2013. The song was followed by “It Won’t Stop,” featuring Chris Brown, and both songs performed well. Sevyn’s debut EP, Call Me Crazy, But… arrived in late 2013 and debuted on the hip hop albums charts at number five, a strong start for a talented young artist.

In addition to being a star on the rise, Sevyn is also a talented composer who has contributed to singles for other notable performers, including: Ariana Grande (“The Way”); Alicia Keys (“Limitedless” and “New Day”); Brandy (“Slower”); Kelly Rowland (“Keep It Between Us”); Trey Songz (“Without a Woman”); and Tamar Braxton (“All the Way Home.”)
