Tinashe Biography

The American singer-songwriter and dance known as Tinashe was born Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe in 1993 in Kentucky. Tinashe grew up in Los Angeles, California, where she began modeling while still a very young child. By the time she was a teenager, she’d started a career as a musician, performing with the group the Stunners.

 

Tinashe remained with the Stunners until 2011, releasing a few hit songs and opening up for such notable acts as Justin Bieber. After the group split, Tinashe set her sights on a solo career, releasing the critically acclaimed mixtapes Reverie and In Case We Die, both in 2012. The additional mixtape Black Water arrived in the following year, but in 2014, Tinashe experienced her biggest breakthrough with the album Aquarius and the song “2 On,” which rose into the top forty on the mainstream charts.

 

Since that time, Tinashe has also released the song “Pretend,” and appeared as a guest artist on a number of songs by other performers, including: “Artificial People” (OFM); “ Cake” (Bobby Brackins); “Eternity” (Legacy); “Body Language” ( Usher and Kid Ink); and “Jealous” ( Nick Jonas.) In addition, Tinashe has appeared in a number of films, including: Cora Unashamed (2000), Call Me Claus (2001), The Polar Express (2004), Akeelah and the Bee (2006.) Tinashe also joined the cast of Two and a Half Men in the recurring role of Celeste Burnett, Jake’s girlfriend.

 

Tinashe has current plans to return to the studio to work on material for another album. She also has plans for additional television and film roles in the coming year.
