Britanny Fousheé, known mononymously as Fousheé, is an American singer-songwriter born on August 1, 1996, in New Jersey. She comes from a musical background, with her Jamaican mother having performed as a drummer for PEP, an all-woman reggae band in the 1980s. Fousheé wrote her first song at the age of five and received formal training in voice, classical music, and various instruments. She attended Bridgewater-Raritan High School and continued her musical endeavors in college. Fousheé released her debut EP, Speak Up, in May 2018, and later competed on season 15 of The Voice, where she advanced to the battle rounds with Adam Levine as her coach.Fousheé gained significant attention in 2020 when rapper Sleepy Hallow used her track "Deep End" in his single "Deep End Freestyle," which became a viral success on TikTok. Subsequently, she released her own version of the song, which reached the number 10 spot on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart. This accomplishment made her the first Black woman to break into the Top 10 of that chart since Tracy Chapman in 1989. Later in 2020, she signed with RCA Records and released the track "By One," which premiered on Essence magazine.In June 2021, Fousheé released her RCA debut EP, Time Machine, and was recognized as Billboard's R&B/hip-hop rookie of the month. She was also named Apple's "Up Next Artist" and appeared on the cover of Wonderland Magazine's Summer 2021 issue. During this period, she collaborated with various artists, including a performance of "Take Me Home" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with Vince Staples. Additionally, her song "Clap for Him" featured Lil Yachty and included a music video with his appearance.Fousheé's prolific output continued into 2022, during which she contributed to Steve Lacy's chart-topping hit "Bad Habit," marking both artists' first number one entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album, Softcore, was released on November 17, 2022. In early 2023, she collaborated with Lil Yachty on tracks from his album Let's Start Here and featured on Teezo Touchdown's debut album How Do You Sleep at Night?, released on September 8, 2023. Through her collaborations and solo efforts, Fousheé has established herself in the contemporary music landscape.
