Protoje Biography
Protoje is a Jamaican singer and songwriter born Oje Ken Ollivierre in 1981. He was born and raised in Sany Elizabeth, Jamaica, and he was raised in a musically inclined family with a reggae mother and calypso father. Protoje wold later write lyrics and craft songs culminating in his debut mixtape Lyrical Overdose in 2005.
Protoje would polish his sound before releasing his debut album The Seven Year Itch in 2011, which including popular local singles such as “Dread” and “Roll.” The song “Arguments” would lead Protoje to become a household name within Jamaica and reggae music, and his second album would be met with further critical acclaim.
Protoje’s music has been streamed millions of times across various platforms and he has had his tracks featured in many major publications including BBC and Billboard, among others. His work has been featured at the top of the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart, and his last album, 2018’s A Matter of Time, would receive a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album.
Protoje recently released a new single entitled “Not Another Word,” which garnered millions of streams across a variety of platforms.
