Marky Ramone Biography

The American musician known as Marky Ramone was born Marc Steven Bell in 1956. Marky is likely best known for his contributions to the classic rock band the Ramones, but long before that Marky first began his music career playing drums for the rock band Dust in the early 1970’s, contributing to their albums Dust (1971) and Hard Attack (1972.) From there he joined a number of different bands until in 1978 he teamed up with Tommy Ramone to join his band, taking on the last name “Ramone.”

With the Ramones, Marky recorded some of the band’s classic hits, including: “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Baby, I Love You,” “Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio,” “Time Has come Today,” “Pet Sematary,” “I Believe in Miracles,” “ Poison Heart,” “ Journey to the Center of the Mind,” and “I Don’t Want to Grow Up.” Marky remained with the Ramones for fifteen years, and went on to become the only remaining member of the group to earn the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement award in 2011.

Marky Ramone continues to perform and record, and today can still be heard on the Sirius XM radio station Punk rock Blitzkrieg, a hosting gig he’s held since 2005. Marky most recently published his autobiography, Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life as a Ramone, in 2015.
