The rock band known as Queens of the Stone Age was formed in California in 1996, founded by musician Josh Homme. The band recorded and released their debut, Queens of the Stone Age, in 1998, to moderate success, spawning the single “If Only.”
It was the band’s sophomore release, Rated R, which garnered them some more attention, upon its release in 2000. The album spawned the top forty rock singles “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret” and “Feel Good Hit of the Summer,” paving the way for Songs for the Deaf, which was an even bigger hit upon its release in 2002. Since then, Queens of the Stoneage has released Lullabies to Paralyze (2005), Era Vulgaris (2007), and ….Like Clockwork (2013), featuring the high-charting singles “No One Knows,” “Go with the Flow,” “First It Giveth,” “Little Sister,” “In My Head,” “Burn the Witch,” “Sick, Sick, Sick,” “3s and 7s,” “My God is the Sun,” and “I Sat by the Ocean.”
So far, Queens of the Stoneage has received multiple Grammy nominations for its music, including four Best Hard Rock Performance nominations (for “No One Knows,” “Go with the Flow,” “Little Sister,” and “Sick, Sick, Sick.”) Their most recent release, …Like Clockwork, was also nominated for Best Rock Album in 2014. Queens of the Stoneage has experienced a number of changes to its original lineup, but continues to perform and record with original member Josh Homme, alongside musicians Jon Theodore (drums); Michael Shuman (bass, vocals, guitars, keyboards); Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, piano); and Troy Van Leeuwen (guitars, keyboards, bass.)
