Romeo Santos Biography
The American songwriter, producer, and singer Romeo Santos was born Anthony Santos in 1981 in The Bronx, New York City. Long before he grew up to become the “king of bachata music,” Santos began singing when he was a child, joining the church choir and developing a love for the Dominican-style music. In the early 1990’s, while still in high school, Romeo formed the group Los Tinellers, releasing a debut album titled Trampa De Amor. The album garnered a bit of buzz, and Romeo and his fellow musicians moved forward, changing the name of their group to Aventura.
With Aventura, Romeo Santos gave fans the albums Generation Next (2000), We Broke the Rules (2002), Love & Hate (2003), God’s Project (2005), and The Last (2009.) The albums rose to the top of the Latin charts and spawned the hit Latin singles: “Obsesion,” “Hermanita,” “La Boda,” “Ella y Yo,” “Un Beso,” “Los Infieles,” “Mi Corazoncito,” “Por un Segundo,” “All Up 2 You,” “Su Veneno,” and “El Malo.”
In 2007, Romeo Santo launched a solo career, while still a member of Aventura. After a few years of successful and popular solo performances, he left Aventure in 2011 and released his debut album, Formula: Vol. 1. The album featured the number one Latin hits: “You,” “Promise,” “Mi Santa,” “La Diabla,” “Llevame Contigo,” and “Propuesta Indecente.” The album earned Romeo a Grammy nomination for Best Tropical Latin Album. The album Formula: Vol. 2 followed in 2014, featuring the hits “Odio,” “Eres Mia,” and “Yo Tambien,” which features Marc Anthony.
Romeo Santos continues to perform and record, and he recently made his big screen debut in a cameo role in the film Furious 7, in 2015.
