Winery Dogs Biography

The American rock “supergroup” The Winery Dogs was just recently established in 2012, founded by Mike Portnoy (of the progressive metal band Dream Theater), and musicians Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen.

Portnoy had performed as the dummer for Dream Theater for a number of years, establishing a reputation for his skills and garnering twenty-six awards from Modern Drummer Magazine. He is also the youngest inductee into the Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame, being inducted at the age of thirty-seven. Upon leaving Dream Theater, Portnoy sought a new outlet for his talents and teamed up with Sheehan and Kotzen. Sheehan had performed as a bassist with a number of notable performers, including Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, and Talas. Kotzen had been best known for his work with the band Poison.

The Winery Dogs released their self-titled debut in 2012 to critical acclaim. The band is currently touring and has plans to return to the studio soon to prepare for another album.
