The Tubes were pioneers in merging rock music with theatrical performance, leaving a significant mark on the music industry during the 1970s and 1980s. They originally formed in San Francisco in 1972, with a lineup that included Fee Waybill, Roger Steen, Prairie Prince, Michael Cotten, Vince Welnick, and Rick Anderson. The band's name, "The Tubes," was a reference to the series of pneumatic tubes used in banks to transport documents. It was a nod to their satirical and unconventional approach to music.
The Tubes were early adopters of music videos, producing a collection of videos released in 1982, showcasing versions of their hits like "White Punks on Dope," "Mondo Bondage," and "Talk to Ya Later."
