Tyler Oakley Biography

Mathew Tyler Oakley is twenty-seven years old living in Los Angeles, California pursuing his dream of being a YouTube personality and an author. Oakley is known for his activism in the LGBT community. Tyler Oakley has over eight million subscribers on YouTube. To put that into perspective, there are about seven million people living on Long Island! He talks about education and prevention of suicide in the LGBT community, as well as pop culture and humor. Oakley attended Michigan State University and began creating his first YouTube video ever when he was a freshman in 2007. Today, Oakley has about 400 videos on his channel with millions of views on each. He is an advocate for being gay, as he appeared on the channel “5AwesomeGays.” Within the two years Oakley was working on his videos he had won about fourteen different awards.

One of Tyler’s biggest role model’s is Ellen DeGeneres who has agreed to air The Tyler Oakley Show on her ellentube channel. Oakley looks up to DeGeneres because she is strong and independent. Oakley says that he respects “what she stands for, and that she is a lesbian.”

Something that makes Oakley stand out from the rest is his support with The Trevor Project, which as stated earlier, is his dedication to the prevention of suicide among LGBT youth. With this, Tyler had raised about $500,000 for the organization.

Oakley has also worked with other stars like Kevin Frazier and Thea Andrews when he appeard on Insider Tonight. In 2014, Oakley had the opportunity to perform live “Tyler Oakley’s Slumber Party” which included him involving the audience in his performance.
