Michelle Phan Biography

American internet personality and entrepreneur Michelle Phan was born in 1987 in Massachusetts. Phan spent her early years growing up in the Boston area, until as a teenager her family relocated to Tampa, Florida. After graduating from high school, Michelle initially chose the Ringling College of Art and Design at which to pursue her studies in the arts; however, after launching a highly successful online series of videos, she instead shifted her focus to entertainment.

Michelle Phan’s YouTube channel became well known for her makeup tutorials, which began to air in 2007. Prior to that, Michelle had hosted a blog series on the same subject. After two of her tutorials instructing eye makeup techniques were featured by BuzzFeed, Phan’s vlog series went viral, rising to over a million subscribers. Within a year, she was a YouTube advertising partner and a consultant for Lancome.

Today, Michelle Phan’s YouTube channel boasts nearly ten million subscribers and more than a billion video hits and views. Phan recently launched her own cosmetic line for L’Oreal, and in 2014 she negotiated a book series for Random House. In 2015, Michelle Phan made the cut for Forbes “30 Under 30” list, making her one of the most influential online entrepreneurs in her age group.
