Wendy Williams Biography
The American television host and radio personality Wendy Williams was born in 1964 in New Jersey. Today, Wendy is best known for her own syndicated talk show, but long before that, she grew up in the Asbury Park area, graduating from high school and going on to earn her B.A. in Communications from Northeastern University in Boston.
Wendy began her career as a radio DJ in the New York area, rising to become well-known for her on-air confrontations with various celebrities and her “shock jockette” style. Her radio show earned her a Billboard Award for Best On-Air Personality in 1993, and ultimately led to syndication in a number of other markets. In 2006, VH1 launched the reality series The Wendy Williams Experience, and in 2008 The Wendy Williams Show began to run on Fox and then BET.
Today, Wendy Williams is best known for her syndicated, Emmy-nominated show, which has been hailed as a “breakthrough” for daytime television programming. In addition to her talk show, Wendy Williams has a number of other endeavors in entertainment and business, including a recent seven-week run on Broadway in the musical Chicago, and a documentary series for the Discovery channel, Death by Gossip with Wendy Williams.
In business, Wendy Williams has her own clothing line distributed through the Home Shopping Network, and a line of jewelry products distributed through QVC. She is also the author of seven New York Times best-selling books, including four fictional novels.
