Bill Parcells Biography

The former American football coach Bill Parcells was born in 1941 in Englewood, New Jersey, and spent his formative years growing up in Hasbrouck Heights. Parcell’s inherited his talents as a football player from his father, who had been a quarterback for Georgetown University. It was no surprise to his family that Bill would play football for his high school as soon as he was eligible; he also played on the school’s baseball and basketball teams. Upon entering university, Parcells served as linebacker, and received some attention from major leagues. But rather then pursue a career as a players, Bill Parcells instead chose to become a college coach, beginning with an assistant coaching position at Hastings.

Bill Parcells career ultimately lasted well into the new millennium, and he is still very active in consulting and advising for others. During the height of his career, Parcells rose to become one of the nation’s most beloved and recognizable coaches, working with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, New York Jets, New York Giants, and even the Air Force Falcons. Parcell’s career highlights include leading two teams to Super Bowl victories and an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Parcells also launched the careers of many other coaches, who under his tutelage prepared for their careers. Among those Bill helped bring to head coaching positions include: Bill Belichick (New England Patriots); Tom Coughlin (New York Giants), Mike Zimmer (Minnesota Vikings); and Todd Bowles (New York Jets), to name a few. Today, Bill Parcells continues to serve as a consulting coach and a football analyst for ESPN. Parcells also continues to consult and assist various head coaches, such as his former assistant coach, Sean Payton, for the New Orleans Saints.
