Biography

The American baseball player David Cone was born in 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri. As a teenager, Cone excelled in sports at his high school, playing quarterback for the football team and playing on the basketball team. His school did not have a baseball team, however, and so David played in a local league, where he quickly became a stand-out pitcher.

Shortly after graduation, David Cone was drafted by the Kansas City Royals, launching a career which would span nearly two decades. Between 1986 and 2003, David Cone excelled as one of America’s most talented baseball icons, playing for five different teams and winning five World Series championships with the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees.  

Since retiring, David Cone has served as a commentator and analyst for the YES Network. His life as an athlete is chronicled in the book A Pitcher’s Story: Innings with David Cone.
