Football player Doug Flutie was born in 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, although he spent his early years in Melbourne Beach, Florida and then his high school years in Natick, Massachusetts. While a student at Natick High School, Doug Flutie excelled in baseball, basketball, and football, and went on to play football for Boston College after graduation.
While at Boston, Flutie won a number of awards for his contributions to the team, including the Heisman Trophy. He also became known for a “Hail Mary” pass which earned the team a victory against Miami, a move which has since become legendary in college football. The event also increased enthusiasm for Boston College and earned the school a huge increase in admissions requests for the next few years. In addition to excelling on the field, Doug Flutie was also a strong academic student, becoming a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship and graduating with honors.
As a professional football player, Doug Flutie played for the Chicago Bears, the New England Patriots, and then the BC Lions and the Calgary Stampeders in Canada. Flutie returned to the United States to play for the Buffalo bills in 1998, ultimately earning himself an NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. He followed the Bills with the San Diego Chargers and then finally the new England Patriots, before retiring in 2005. In 2006, he was ranked number one in the list of top 50 CFL players for that year.
Since retiring, Doug Flutie has worked as an analyst for ABC, ESPN, NBC Sports, and most recently, MBCSN. He and his brother Darren also started the Flutie Brothers Band, and they play regularly in the Boston area.
