Floyd Mayweather Jr. Biography
The American professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was born in 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mayweather’s foray into boxing was no surprise, as he had been born into a family of boxers and his father was a former welterweight contender. His uncles were also both boxers, and so Floyd Jr. began to train when he was still in elementary school. Boxing became a way for Mayweather to cope with his parents drug addictions and the family struggles. Ultimately, Floyd Mayweather Jr. dropped out of high school to pursue a career as a boxer full time.
Today, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the undefeated five-division world champion. Notable recognitions and honors for Mayweather include: eleven world titles; Fighter of the Year award for 1998 and 2007; current ranking on Boxrec as the 7th greatest fighter of all time; and multiple Best Fighter ESPY Awards (for 2007 through 2014.) Mayweather’s individual titles are too numerous to mention, but he is among the highest paid athletes in the world for the last few years and considered to be one of the nation’s greatest fighters.
Floyd Mayweather recently appeared on Dancing with the Stars for the show’s 5th season, competing alongside Karina Smirnoff. The couple finished in 9th place.
