Nacho Figueras Biography
The Argentinian polo player known as Nacho Figueras was born Ignacio Figueras in 1977 in Buenos Aires. Referred to often as the “ David Beckham of polo,” Nacho rose to prominence in the 2000’s after his impressive performance and striking good looks turned his athletic career into a modeling one. Prior to his becoming the face of Ralph Loren in 2000, Nacho grew up playing polo throughout his childhood, turning pro at the age of seventeen.
After joining White Birch in Bridgehampton, New York, Nacho spent the remainder of the decade competing professionally and raising awareness for the sport. Nacho has organized numerous matches throughout the New York area, attracting famous competitors and participants such as Minnie Driver, Mischa Barton, and England’s Prince Harry. In 2009, he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and gave one of Oprah’s reporters a private lesson in the sport, which further helped to raise awareness and boost its popularity.
By 2009, Nacho Figueras had also established himself firmly as one of the eras most recognizable models, serving as the face of Ralph Lauren’s Black Label and establishing his own brand with the company. The clothing line features Nacho’s number 2 on a series of tight-fitting polo shirts, a branding which is now valued in the billions of dollars. Nacho Figueras continues to balance his modeling career and polo playing, serving as the captain of BlackWatch, a polo team he co-owns and manages.
