Sugarland Biography

The duo Sugarland was established in 2002 by Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall. After the addition of Jennifer Nettles, the group briefly became a trio, before Hall departed from Sugarland and Kristian and Jennifer moved forward as a duo once again. After signing to their first recording contract, the duo released Twice the Speed of Life in 2004, and the album’s first single, “Baby Girl,” rose to the top of the country charts and became one of the most successful debut singles for a country group.

The songs "Just Might (Make Me Believe)", "Something More", and "Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good)", also reached into the top forty on the country charts, and brought Sugarland’s debut album to multi-platinum status. The duo earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and released a follow-up album, Enjoy the Ride, in 2006. The albums Love on the Inside (2008) and The Incredible Machine (2010) followed, spawning the top ten hits: “Just Might (Make Me Believe),” “Want To,” “Settlin’,” “Everyday America,” “Stay,” “All I Want to Do,” “Already Gone,” “It Happens,” “Stuck Like Glue,” and “Little Miss.”

Since the duo’s first Grammy nomination, Sugarland has won Academy of Country Music Awards for top New Duo or Vocal Group, Song of the Year (for “Stay”), and Top Vocal Duo. Sugarland has also won an American Music Award for Favorite Breakthrough New Artist, in addition to Academy of Country Music Awards (for Vocal Duo of the Year and Song of the Year) and Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals (for “Stay.”)

Thus far, Sugarland has sold more than fourteen million records. The duo most recently contributed to the soundtrack for the film Act of Valor and currently Bush is continuing forward as a solo act temporarily while Nettles is on maternity leave. When Nettles returns, Sugarland has plans for a new album release and additional tours in the future.
