Jimmy Connors Biography
Former tennis player Jimmy Connors was born in 1952 in East St. Louis, Illinois. Connors began playing tennis when he was very young, competing in his first U.S. Championship when he was only nine years old. By the time he was a teenager, he’d become one of only a handful of tennis players to win the Junior Orange Bowl championship twice. It was clear that Jimmy’s talents would lead to a great career in tennis.
Jimmy Connors attended the University of California, Los Angeles in the early 1970’s and won the NCAA singles title in his first year. Since turning professional in 1972, Connors has gone on to hold top rankings for more than two hundred and fifty weeks and hold three Open Era singles records. His additional achievements include: seventeen Grand Prix Super Series, three year-end championships, one Australian Open, two Wimbledons, and five US Opens.
In recent years, Jimmy Connors has served as a coach for a number of up and coming tennis players. Connors recently published his autobiography, The Outsider, in 2013.
