Sister Sledge formed in 1972, when the beautiful and talented Sledge sisters: Kim, Debbie, Joni, and Kathy, decided that they would form their own singing group. In 1979, Sister Sledge's world would be turned upside down when they released "We Are Family." The song raced up the OP and R&B charts, as did their other great single "He's the Greatest Dancer" Both songs were included on their 8-song 1979 album We Are Family. A year later, Sister Sledge returned with their sophomore effort Love Somebody Today. The songs "Got to Love Somebody" and "Pretty Baby" charted well stateside and overseas. Sister Sledge was looking to jazz things up when they hired producer Narada Michael Walden in 1981. Sister Sledge released All-American Girls, which offered two hit songs; the title track, and "Next Time You'll Know" The sisters continued singing new material throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In985, Sister Sledge hit #1 with the song "Frankie and followed that with "Dancing on the Jagged Edge. In 1998, Sister Sledge released African Eyes was released in 1998. Sister Sledge's "He's Greatest Dancer" has seen a resurgence in popularity in the new millennium. Will Smith sampled it on his masterful "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and Dannii Minogue covered it in 2007.
